After last season with the unpopular choice of letting Brett Favre go, going 6-10 after a near Super Bowl run the year before that, one thing seemed to be clear in most peoples mind FIRE TED THOMPSON and do it NOW! And after a 4-4 start and a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers it seemed that those people just might of been right.
Well guys, I've been trying to say this all along but he know what he's doing and he is here to stay! Without getting any outside help the Packers finished the season 7-1 in their last 8 games and propeled themselves into the playoffs, which did end in heart break.
We don't need Mike Holmgren to be our "czar" in fact that would be very stupid since Ted Thompson was brought in 2000 to Seattle to clean up Holmgrens mess that Mike just couldn't do and most of the team that he build ended up being the 2005 NFC Champions ,the year that he was named General Manager of the Green Bay Packers. Some of the big players Thompson selected while he was with the Seahawks were RB Shaun Alexander, K Josh Brown, G Steve Hutchinson, WR Darrell Jackson, CBs Marcus Trufant and Ken Lucas, S Ken Hamlin and Michael Boulware.
And although it might not look like he is drafting to make his Green Bay Packers a power house for years to come. Since 2005 hes drafted key started such as: 2005 QB Aaron Rodgers and S Nick Collins, 2006 LB AJ Hawk, G Daryn College, C Jason Spitz, DE Johnny Jolly, 2007 brought us T Allen Barbre (he's coming along) and K Mason Crosby, 2008 TE Jermichael Finley, G Josh Sitton and 2009 DT BJ Raji, LB Clay Matthews and T TJ Lang.
Note that those are just starters they also have other impact players that he has drafted that don't see the football every down.
He has also brought in free agents that turned us into a power house such as Charles Woodson, Atari Bigby, Ryan Pickett, and Brandon Chillar.
Of course he is not all perfect for the offensive line might need a little revamping and more depth in the cornerback position. Although most people say they could use better linebackers too, but I think they just need another year in the system with the linebackers they have on the roster right now.
I know what most of you are thinking, this guy must be nuts! Maybe I am, but i like the way Thompson is building this team and the direction this team seems to be headed in, young and talented! It might look bad that he only had two winning seasons and two playoff teams since he was hired, but it's not where you have been its all about where you are going, and to me I think Thompson is taking us to the promise land!
